Introduction

I graduated in Medicine from the University of Melbourne and am a Fellow of the Australian Society for Psychological Medicine. I have been a psychotherapist in private practice in Melbourne for over 20 years.

Psychotherapy Qualifications

I have a Diploma in Adult Psychotherapy from the Melbourne College of Contemporary Psychotherapy (MCCP) and a Graduate Diploma in Family Therapy from Latrobe University. I  was on the teaching faculty of the MCCP.

Psychiatry Training

I closed my practice in Melbourne in 2015 to undertake psychiatry training in NSW and worked as a psychiatry registrar at Nepean Hospital in outer Western Sydney and at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital in rural NSW. Having decided not to continue in the psychiatry training program my wife and I decided to move to Townsville to be with family.

Professional Development in Psychotherapy

I have a strong commitment to continuing personal and professional development. Moreover, I have undertaken my own personal and group psychotherapy. In addition, I have taught psychotherapy to mental health professionals at the Melbourne College of Contemporary Psychotherapy. I undertake psychotherapy supervision and regularly attend psychotherapy training workshops to keep up to date with clinical practice and research.

In April this year I attended a workshop in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) run by Dr Marsha Linehan. Dr Linehan designed DBT for the treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), moreover Dr Linehan herself has been given a diagnosis of BPD.

Later this year I plan to undertake training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). This is an evidence-based treatment for flashbacks related to acute PTSD.
